Chakras Explained: The Seven Energy Centers of the Body

Chakras are energy centers located within the body. Most traditions recognize seven primary chakras, positioned along the midline of the body, right through the center. The Seven Chakras

1. Muladhara - The Root Chakra Located at the base of the spine in the perineum region. Its color is red and its element is earth. This is the chakra of grounding, stability and belonging - the foundation of everything else.

2. Svadhisthana - The Sacral Chakra Located in the pelvic region. Its color is orange and its element is water. This energy center governs creativity, sensuality and flow - keeping you connected to the fluid, feeling dimension of life.

3. Manipura - The Solar Plexus Chakra Located just above the navel. Its color is yellow and its element is fire. Think of it as your inner sun - the seat of personal power, confidence and will. Whenever you need strength, this is the energy center to tune into.

4. Anahata - The Heart Chakra Located at the center of the chest. Its color is green and its element is ether. The heart chakra is the bridge - between the three lower chakras rooted in the physical and the three upper chakras reaching toward the divine. It is the connector. The energy center that allows us to truly meet one another.

5. Vishuddha - The Throat Chakra Located at the throat. Its color is blue. This is a powerful energy center governing communication, speech and authentic expression - your spoken word, your thinking, how you show up in the world.

6. Ajna - The Third Eye Chakra Located between and just above the eyebrows. Its color is violet. This is your center of intuitive knowing - the inner vision that perceives what cannot always be seen with the physical eye. When this chakra is open and clear, you access a deep, quiet intelligence that transcends ordinary thinking.

7. Sahasrara - The Crown Chakra Located at the crown of the head. Its color is golden and shimmering. This is your connection to universal intelligence, to something far greater than the individual self.
